Fourth Graders Dig Into Place Value with Hands-On Learning
· Saturday, August 22, 2026

In Mrs. Mandy's 4th grade math class, students are deep into a unit on place value, and they are loving every minute of it. Rather than just working through problems on paper, students are using hands-on manipulatives to see and touch the concepts they are learning, making abstract number ideas feel real and concrete.
There is nothing quite like learning by doing, and Mrs. Mandy's students are proving that every day. By physically building numbers and working through place value concepts with their hands, students are developing a deeper and more lasting understanding of how our number system works.
Columbia Academy is proud of the creative, engaged learning happening in classrooms like this one, and we love seeing our students excited about math. Great work, fourth graders, keep it up!
