CHEERLEADING Any girl or boy entering the 7th through 12th grades is eligible to participate in the cheerleading program at CA. Students wanting to become a cheerleader place their name on a list. They attend a three day try-out clinic. On the day of try-outs each girl goes before three NCA judges. Each participant is required to do an entrance showing spirit and tumbling. Then each participant has to perform three advanced jumps and cheer. They then return in groups of three to perform a dance. Cheerleaders are then selected based on scores. Students are required to be registered and accepted at CA before tryouts. If they are failing more than two major subjects, they are not allowed to try out. After being selected as a cheerleader, they are required to attend all practice sessions, all football games, all home basketball games, and 50% of away basketball games. They are also required to cheer at any tournament playoff games. Cheerleaders are also subject to a Cheerleader Code and the CA handbook. Both JV and Varsity squads have received top honors at camp. Both squads in the past two years have won TOP Team, Chant Champions, and National bids to Dallas, Texas. These honors are extended to teams who exemplify the best technical skill and cheerleading techniques. Last year we even had one JV cheerleader selected as TOP ALL-AMERICAN from all campers of all age groups at the camp for having the highest overall score during the All American tryouts. We will be holding tryouts on March 12, 2010. We will immediately begin preparing for camp that we will attend the end of May.
